To keep the best quality of the suit, only go for a dry cleaning service. The chemicals of detergents may destroy the natural fibers of the suit. If there is a stain, you can spot-clean with water and a soft towel, if it won’t work, bring to a professional dry cleaning service. Also, dry cleaning can only be done once in three months or once in a month, if needed, to keep the structure of the suit intact.
If your suit a full-canvas suit, it can easily get back to its original form because of its hand-sewn interlinings. For fused suits, it might form bubbles over time especially after frequent dry cleaning. If your suit was exposed from smoke, hang it promptly at a well-ventilated area and air dry.
2. Pressing

Did you know, after tailoring the suit, it takes an hour and a half to press a set of suit? It takes that long to correctly smoothen the suit and all the small crevices.
If what you have is a traditional dry iron, do not press it directly onto the suit. Lay a cloth or “katsa” on top of the suit then press the suit. Make sure the heat of the iron is not too hot if so, it will add a sheen on the material as if it was burned. This is common to suits with a high content of polyester. Polyester has high plastic component.
You can use a steamer also, use it correctly as instructed by the product. Nonetheless, bring it to the cleaners and have them iron it.
Tip: If your suit is full-canvas construction, and you just took it out of your suit/garment bag, just hang it in a well-ventilated area for a few hours or overnight. The structure of the suit will go back to its shape and creases will be reduced. Once worn, it will conform to your body.

3. Storage

First is to use the best quality hangers, wood or plastic hangers with rounded edges, to ensure that the contours of the suit are fully supported. This will maintain the form of the coat’s shoulders. Do not overcrowd your wardrobe space, if possible, make a separate closet allotted only for your suits. If you plan to wear a suit that you didn’t wear for a while, brush it with a quality natural hair clothes brush.
