From undeniable tailoring prowess in well-crafted bespoke suits, TIÑO takes up a notch on sartorial excellence in making Safari jackets.
A traditional Safari Jacket is used as casual jackets for summer. It debuted in the 1930’s Hollywood jungle films like Clark Gable as Victor Marswell in Mogambo also in the 1970’s worn by Kamal Khan, played by Louis Jourdan in the movie Octopussy. He wore matching olive green shirt-jacket and trousers that is known as a “Safari Suit.”
TIÑO just marked their 5th year in the tailoring business and an off-the-rack Safari jacket is just another creation that will cater to its active “concrete jungle” customers. TIÑO’s modern-day Safari jacket can be worn all-year round in a tropical country like the Philippines. The Safari jackets are all handcrafted by Filipino artisans headed by Master Tailor Napoleon Arienza. TIÑO uses quality cotton, linen or cotton and linen blend fabrics such as from Baird McNutt Irish Linen.
To know more about TIÑO’s Safari jackets, here are the basics:
- Unstructured jacket
Formal coats sports jackets has interlinings. For the Safari jacket, TIÑO is taking a break from their signature handmade interlinings. The construction is plain linen or cotton without the horsehair canvas and felt underneath the main fabric. This makes it a perfect outer wear during warm places. It is lightweight like wearing a crisp linen shirt or your regular office barongs. A few selections of the safari jackets are quarter-lined to fully support the back pleats.
- 2-Chest pocket and patch pockets.
The chest pocket is shaped like a regular shirt’s pocket. Since there are no inner pockets, flapped bellowed 2-patch pockets are added. It’s expected to be oversized to fit all the small things you need to carry. All pockets can be fastened with buttons.
- Soft shirt collar
When wearing overcoats, we used to turn up the collar and reveal the underside. Same thing for Safari jackets, the soft collar can still be turned up for a more casual look, and it’s an illusion of an elongated figure.
- Belted jacket
To add the utilitarian fashionable look of a Safari jacket, the waist area is cinched with a built-in belt. It’s a beautiful detail for a casual jacket. This is truly a jacket made for a free-spirit individual who probably isn’t much a fan of formal suits.
TIÑO Safari jackets have the staple shades of blue, khaki and off-white and will be releasing more colors and different styles this summer. This casual jacket can easily be worn with jeans, chinos or wool trousers. Go with non-formal shoes, stay away with the Oxfords, and opt for the Broques, Chukka boots, or suede lace up shoes, topsiders.
